I believe that this as the collision theory t ells us thatmolecules shake up which cause to react and merge to create a compound.This reaction varies in speed depending on the come in of molecules inthe mixture and how much vigor the molecules possess, which is whyheated molecules react faster than normal ones. So with the amount ofHydrochloric acid staying relatively the same yet the number ofMagnesium molecules increasing, the reaction will only take longer asthe molecules have to conflict even more for the reaction to becomplete.Hypothesis If my prediction is to be proven correct, then the timetaken to react to the longest strip of Magnesium would take thelongest and the short strip would take the least amount of time. Weshould also see from repeated attempts at this try out, that theaverages would also outgrowth depending on the length of the Magnesiumribbon.Control Variables I have elect not change the volume of hydrochloricacid, and the width of acid will alter the amount and effectiveness ofthe acid, which will mak e the rate of reaction speed up and cause anunfair experiment. I have also kept the magnesium strip the sameribbon, as if the width if the magnesium strip is changed, the surfacearea would become larger and more molecules would be able to collideat one time, which would mean that the rate of reaction would befaster.Preliminary Work I have... ...unt of timetaken to perform the experiment and would give me the opportunity formore renders to be taken and more selective information to be retrieved.However, the tests that were performed were a fair test as the method employ was very simple, so error wasnt a large factor. This meant thatthe consequence could react without being tampered with. Although, onperforming the second attempt for the 5cm strip, the tubing wasaccidentally split by passers by, so we had to stop the time and put down the time thus far. This could be the cause for the anomalieswithin the results and if I were to do it again, I would expect theresults to be great ly different.Due to the amount of stopwatches apply in the experiment, we were ableto get the exact time for each test tube, which was easier forrecording than just using one, which I did during the preliminaryexperiment.Conclusion In conclusion, I found out that my prediction was rightand that the longer strip took a comparatively longer reaction timethan the short ii centimetre strip. This can be seen from theevidence gathered, which I believed to be absolute and would appearagain if this experiment were to be performed once more.
